Maryland Raises Tolls Along With Discounts

he Maryland Transportation Authority approved a package of toll increases on several key trucking routes during an Oct. 21 meeting, but softened the impact by increasing discounts to users of its electronic toll-collection system.

The agency, which regulates tolls for several tunnels, bridges and highways in Maryland, had given its preliminary approval to the toll hikes in September.

The tunnels affected by the toll increase — the Fort McHenry and the Harbor tunnels — carry highway traffic on Interstates 95 and 895 under Baltimore Harbor. Tolls for these routes would double on Nov. 15 to $8 for a five-axle vehicle from $4, the authority said.
