Mayflower Raises Agent Compensation

FENTON, Mo. – Mayflower Transit raised the commissions it pays agent van lines effective Jan. 1. The new schedule will boost agent compensation by about 4%, the company said.

Robert J. Baer, president of UniGroup Inc., the parent of Mayflower and United Van Lines, said the change is designed to compensate agents for increased customer service responsibilities since Mayflower was acquired in 1995.

Mr. Baer said the higher commissions will mean reinvestment of a projected $10 million in the Mayflower agency network in 1999.

"We expect to see that amount to grow in future years as van line volume increases through agents’ sales efforts financed in part by this compensation adjustment," he said.
