NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A leading provider of lithium-ion batteries and power systems unveiled new visibility-enhancement technology at American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition.

Dragonfly Energy Holdings Corp. on Oct. 13 introduced its IntelLigence technology for the heavy-duty trucking sector. The patent-pending smart-battery technology is designed to provide fleets and commercial vehicle operators with real-time monitoring and app-based connectivity. According to the Nevada-based firm, the technology is ideal for fully monitoring battery life, setting custom alerts and accessing historical usage data.

The company indicated the technology complements its award-winning Battle Born All-Electric auxiliary power unit, or APU. “The integration of our patented Dragonfly IntelLigence technology marks a significant advancement for our APU solution,” Wade Seaburg, Dragonfly Energy’s chief revenue officer, said in a statement accompanying the Oct. 13 announcement.

The Battle Born All-Electric APU is designed to run hotel loads in sleeper cabs to minimize engine idling. It also can provide power to liftgates. The technology is expected to be publicly available to owners and operators by the end of the year.

“This upgrade,” Seaburg added, “gives drivers comprehensive visibility over their battery system so they can rest easy knowing the battery won’t drain nor the truck restart while they are trying to sleep. By prioritizing driver experience and efficiency, we’re helping fleets reduce costs and improve sustainability.”

Specific to performance, Seaburg told reporters at MCE, “We will make it through every single 10-hour rest period — and we have the data to show that; the real-world data from those fleets that we’ve spoken to — to make it through every single 10-hour rest period without ever restarting the engine.”

In August, the company announced a partnership with Tennessee-based Highway Transport to begin integrating the Battle Born All-Electric APU into their fleet. Highway Transport specializes in liquid chemical transportation. “Every vehicle that they’re getting now is coming either with our system on it or it’s being put on at an upfitter with our system,” Seaburg explained at the conference.

“At Highway Transport, sustainability and driver well-being are paramount. Dragonfly Energy’s solution allows us to make significant strides on both fronts,” Marshall Franklin, CEO and chief financial officer for Highway Transport, said in a statement Dragonfly Energy provided. “The added benefit of fuel cost savings further strengthens the value proposition of this partnership.”
