McLeod, Skybitz Debut Software Upgrades

McLeod Software and SkyBitz Corp. have announced upgrades to their technology offerings.

McLeod Software said it is now offering Version 10 of its DocumentPower Enterprise business process management software.

The firm said its upgraded product includes expanded bar code functions. It also permits fitting individual electronic customer bills to specific formats.

Elsewhere, SkyBitz Corp. said a new modem developed with satellite operator Iridium Communications allows the SkyBitz system to offer two-way tracking worldwide.

Two-way tracking had been available only in North America, the company said.

The companies said they have teamed up on the SkyBitz GLS9602 modem. When used with Iridium’s 9602 short-burst data transceiver, the modem offers two-way GPS tracking without a need for high power consumption from onboard location calculations.

In December, SkyBitz was sold to wireless alarm company Telular Corp. for $42 million.
