Melton Truck Line to Increase Driver Pay
Melton Truck Lines is increasing driver pay by 2 cents per mile and will start student driver pay at 37 cents and the most experienced drivers 50 cents.
According to the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based company, the increases can boost a driver’s pay by at least $2,400 annually.
“I promise my drivers if they work hard and smart, they will be well-compensated. This raise is well-deserved and just the first of many,” Melton president Bob Peterson said in a statement.
The company also pays $40 for tarping, 8 cents per minute for overdimensional loads and 6 cents for Canadian and hazmat loads.
The wage increase follows announcements by Transport America and Con-way Truckload that they would raise pay.
Transport America said it is increasing starting driver pay to 43 cents per mile and raising pay for owner operators, solo, team and hazmat drivers. Con-way Truckload said it is increasing new-hire per-mile pay to 42.5 cents.
