NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Meritor Inc. has launched a lighter-weight, front-steer axle that is part of the MFS series, which the company announced is easier to maintain.
"With integrated components and an optimized design to reduce weight, the Meritor Front Steer axle ([MFS+] represents the next step in the evolution of our front-steer axle offering," said Chris Villavarayan, Meritor’s president of the Americas.
The company launched the axle at the Technology & Maintenance Council’s annual meeting here.
Meritor said the MFS+ saves up to 85 pounds compared with the current offering.
The axle is available in standard and wide track and has a gross axle weight rating of between 12,000 and 13,200 pounds.
Meritor also introduced a lighter weight drive axle for Classes 6-7 called the 13X.
The company said it was engineered for a variety of medium-duty applications, including pick-up and delivery, beverage, utility and construction.
The company said because the 13X includes the same housing, yokes and seals as the existing 14X axle, the new system will be familiar to fleet technicians.
Additionally, Meritor said it is extending warranty coverage for its optional AxlePak7 on-highway trailer wheel-ends to seven years.
