Metro Supply Chain Group Expands Home Delivery, Warehousing Operations in Canada
Metro Supply Chain Group has completed two acquisitions designed to boost its home delivery services and expand its warehousing and distribution operations for consumer packaged goods in Canada.
On May 8, the Toronto-based company acquired Total E-com Home Delivery in Mississauga, Ontario, which specializes in door-to-door deliveries of big and bulky items purchased online.
Total E-com was started in 2000 and will continue to operate under Metro’s Metro To Home division.
“This is a significant development for our direct-to-consumer large-item delivery operations,” Metro Supply Chain Group CEO Chiko Nanji said. “It increases our volume exponentially while adding strong relationships that expand our network and reach in the Canadian market.”
No further details about volume or the terms of the purchase were disclosed.
Total E-com founder and owner Louise Bouilanger said in a statement that she is excited to join Metro and believes it will be beneficial.
“In this industry, we’re driven by a passion to continuously improve the customer experience,” she said. “Merging our efficiencies with Metro’s is an opportunity to really move that vision forward.”
The second deal, announced May 14, involved Metro subsidiary Pivot Logistics, which purchased the Ontario warehousing and distribution operations of Van De Water-Raymond.
“This company is a very good fit for the Metro family,” Nanji said. “Much of Van De Water-Raymond’s operation runs parallel to our existing competencies in the consumer packaged goods industry, so this builds onto our infrastructure nicely.”
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Van De Water-Raymond, based in Laval, Quebec, will maintain operations in Quebec and the Maritime Provinces, specializing in distribution of food and grocery and pharmaceutical products.
Metro Supply Chain Group operates throughout North America and in Europe with more than 6,000 employees and more than 12 million square feet of warehousing and distribution space, plus dedicated fleet management, last-mile delivery and expedited shipping services.
