Meyers Transportation Services announced it is shutting down its less-than-truckload freight carrier operating in Canada after 90 years in business due to poor economic conditions and increased competition in the market.
“Unfortunately, with the economic realities of the past decade and the resulting impact on the LTL market, the decision has been made to close Meyers Transport Ltd. operations, effective Jan. 20,” Chairman Natalie Meyers said in a letter to customers.
The company’s customer list will be transferred to Manitoulin Transport, based in Gore Bay, Ontario, Meyers said.
Larry and Natalie Meyers will continue to own and operate Mortrans Inc., a truckload and dedicated carrier based in Belleville, Ontario, and Jacquie Meyers will own and operate Mosaic Logistics, a third-party logistics firm, based in Peterborough, Ontario.
