Rep. John Mica (R) Fla.), chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, has set July 7 as his target date for unveiling his six-year reauthorization bill.
Mica spokesman Justin Harclerode told Transport Topics that the chairman set that date, as well as the date of July 12 for a committee markup.
House Republican leaders, however, have not put reauthorization on the summer schedule for debate, meaning the bill will not be addressed until after the August recess.
On the Senate side, Mary Kerr, spokeswoman for Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) who heads the Environment and Public Works Committee, said Boxer has not decided when to introduce the bill she has written with ranking committee member Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.)
Boxer outlined the contents of the bill on May 25, the same day that she, Inhofe and two other senators said they had reached agreement on what would go into the measure.
