ATLANTA — Mitchell 1 announced updates to its TruckSeries suite of software products, with a focus on easing truck technicians’ access to information.
Mitchell 1 General Manager Scott DeGiorgio introduced the user-focused features at an Oct. 29 press conference at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show here.
A new feature on TruckSeries, 1Search Plus, allows truck technicians to find “all relevant information for the selected truck seamlessly in one lookup,” according to the presentation. TruckSeries provides access to repair information and other data for all makes of Classes 4-8 trucks.
The 1Search Plus feature allows technicians to search vehicles and terms to pull up “cards” with relevant information on a part, test, component or other query. The cards can be used to walk a technician through a step-by-step procedure.
“This allows a ‘B’ technician to really start acting like an ‘A’ technician,” DeGiorgio said. He also said that ease of access to information can help technicians new to the field learn as they go. “It’s getting more complex,” DeGiorgio said about the industry, highlighting the difficulties of repairing still-evolving electric vehicle and fuel cell technology.
“It’s important they have the information they need so they’re not doing work twice, they don’t have comebacks, and worst-case scenario, the vehicle breaks down after [they] do a repair, going down the street,” DeGiorgio said.
Also, Mitchell 1’s Enhanced Wiring Diagrams are searchable, making it easier for technicians to pinpoint and highlight components. DeGiorgio said Mitchell 1, based in Poway, Calif., is working on additional updates to the wiring diagrams, with “Phase 2” developments underway.
