More in Trucking Take Leap Onto Online Bandwagon

Vendors are flooding the market with Internet-based exchanges for managing and moving freight. As the exchanges proliferate, the vendors jockey for position in hopes of attracting enough business to keep carriers’ trailers full while cutting costs for shippers.

In the past year alone, at least 55 transportation exchanges have popped up online, vying for a piece of the $600 billion spent annually on moving goods from point A to B. But some industry observers think the gold rush may be too much of a good thing in a marketplace unable to sustain the volume of newcomers.
