Surface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico jumped 3.1% in December from a year earlier, the Department of Transportation said Monday.
Surface trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners reached $60.9 billion, DOT’s Bureau of Trade Statistics said in its monthly report.
Truck imports to the United States declined 0.6% year-over-year to $20.9 billion, while exports rose 2.1% to $19.8 billion.
Rail imports fell 7.1% to $7.1 billion, while exports jumped 13.3% to $3.8 billion, DOT said.
Pipeline imports jumped 28.3% $5.1 billion, while exports soared 42.6% to $466 million.
Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. About 90% of U.S. trade among NAFTA partners moves by land.
