Surface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico jumped 8.6% in November from a year earlier, the Department of Transportation said Thursday.
Surface trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners reached $70.4 billion, DOT’s Bureau of Trade Statistics said in its monthly report.
U.S. imports by truck rose 6.2% year-over-year to $25.3 billion, while exports rose 9% to $23.7 billion, DOT said.
Rail imports rose 7.3% to $8.2 billion, while exports jumped 16.1% to $4.3 billion.
Pipeline imports rose 11.9% $4.7 billion, while exports gained 4.7% to $259 million, DOT said.
Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. About 90% of U.S. trade among NAFTA partners moves by land.
