Surface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico fell 2.1% in October from a year earlier, the Department of Transportation said Thursday.
Trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners fell to $72.7 billion, DOT’s Bureau of Trade Statistics said in its monthly report.
Truck imports to the United States plunged 12% year-over-year to $23.8 billion, while exports held at $25.3 billion.
Rail imports fell 7% to $7.6 billion, while exports rose 16.1% to $4.8 billion, DOT said.
Pipeline imports rose 32.4% to $6.8 billion, while exports doubled, to $303 million.
Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. About 90% of U.S. trade among NAFTA partners moves by land.
