Surface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico jumped 16.3% in February from a year earlier, the Department of Transportation said Wednesday.

Trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners reached $69.4 billion, DOT’s Bureau of Trade Statistics said in its monthly report.

Truck imports to the United States gained 8.5% year-over-year to $24 billion, while exports rose 11%, to $22.5 billion.

Rail imports rose 12.4% to $7.5 billion, while exports jumped 37.8% to $4.3 billion, DOT said.

Pipeline imports leaped 69.8% $6.7 billion, while exports rose 24.2% to $454 million.

Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. About 90% of U.S. trade among NAFTA partners moves by land.
