Surface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico jumped 7.4% in January from a year earlier, the Department of Transportation said Monday.
Trade among the North American Free Trade Agreement partners reached $65.2 billion, DOT’s Bureau of Trade Statistics said in its monthly report.
Truck imports to the United States gained 0.8% year-over-year to $22.5 billion, while exports rose 7.9%, to $21.9 billion.
Rail imports fell 3.4% to $6.6 billion, while exports jumped 26.1% to $3.8 billion, DOT said.
Pipeline imports rose 39.7% $6 billion, while exports soared 41.8% to $418 million.
Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. About 90% of U.S. trade among NAFTA partners moves by land.
