Nashville Mayor Karl Dean Joins Infrastructure Advocacy Group

Nashville, Tennessee, Mayor Karl Dean is the latest government official to become a member of Building America's Future, a leading advocate for improving aging infrastructure nationwide..

Since entering office in 2017, Dean has helped lead the city’s investment of more than $1.7 billion for transit, sidewalks, parks and infrastructure in the surrounding area. Nashville is along a premier freight corridor in that region.

“If we didn’t work every year to upgrade our infrastructure, we wouldn’t be able to provide the quality of life our citizens demand and deserve, and many of our visitors wouldn’t bother coming back,” Dean said this month.

Building America's Future is led by former Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood as well as former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Myriad elected officials have joined the group over the years. Marcia Hale, the group’s president, said Dean has worked to ensure funding for infrastructure projects in the Music City.

“Throughout his long tenure as mayor, Karl Dean has been a champion of smart infrastructure and transportation policies for Nashville that have resulted in a higher quality of life for the city and its residents,” Hale said.
