The national average diesel fuel price slipped less than a penny to $1.411 a gallon on June 12, as diesel continued its slow downward trend from the record highs reached three months ago.
The average stood at $1.149 during the previous week and at $1.415 on May 15, according to the Energy Information Administration.
In its latest survey, the federal agency found diesel prices decreased in all regions except the West, where small gains were reported in the Rocky Mountain and West Coast areas.
The American Petroleum Institute also reported growth in distillate inventories of 3.2%. Diesel and home heating oil are two of the products most commonly referred to as distillates.
