Navistar International Corp. said it has begun commercial truck production at its factory in Canoas, Brazil, with the capacity to build 5,000 a year.
The 40,000-square-meter facility already produced commercial and industrial 2.8- to 13-liter diesel engines for the company’s MWM-International division, according to Navistar, and serves as a parts distribution center.
“While we remain focused on improving our core North American business, we continue to look for smart, strategic ways to invest in select global markets, and our investment in Brazil is just one example of that approach,” Eric Tech, president of Navistar Global Truck and Engine, said in a statement.
The Lisle, Ill.-based manufacturer said it has invested more than $200 million in Brazil including research and development projects as well as new product launches for the Brazilian truck market.
