Navistar Explores Chinese Engine Venture

Navistar International Corp. said that it is exploring a joint venture to build and market diesel engines for commercial vehicles in China.

The venture proposed partnership would be a 50-50 joint venture with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co., , Navistar said in a statement Friday. The companies would make engines used primarily in China and some export markets.

The companies would establish a research and design facility in the Anhui province in China, Navistar said.

The partnership is subject to approval by both companies’ board of directors, in addition to regulatory and other approvals. Navistar did not give an estimated time frame for such approvals.
