Navistar Names New Head of Heavy Vehicle Group

Dennis Webb was named general manager of Navistar International’s Heavy Vehicle Center, the company announced July 26.

Webb, 52, succeeds Steve Keate, who became president of Navistar’s Truck Group on June 18.

In a related development, a Navistar spokesman declined to address published reports that former Truck Group President Don DeFosset resigned after learning he would not succeed Navistar Chairman John Horne.

Automotive News, citing unnamed sources, referred to a “power struggle” within the company. The publication said Horne had made known he had no plans to retire, although speculation circulated that he would do so within three years.

Roy Wiley, manager of external communications for Navistar, referred questions on the matter to the company’s press release on the appointment of Keate, which praised both him and DeFosset.

Webb, a 30-year-employee of the company, had served as president of Navistar International Overseas Corp., and was lauded by Keate for leading “the successful launch of operations in Mexico and Brazil.”

Before that, Webb held several positions within the company, including senior vice president, product and planning manager, general manager of used truck operations and assistant corporate controller.

Webb joined Navistar International after his graduation from the University of Dayton with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance. He has a master’s degree in business administration from St. Francis University in Indiana.
