Navistar International Corp. said it has renamed most of its subsidiaries in order to “bring clarity” to its growing number of brands.
The International Truck and Engine Corp. unit is now known as Navistar Inc., although the International brand name will remain, the company said late Wednesday.
“We used to have mainly one brand, International, in trucks and in engines, but now we have four vehicle brands — International, IC, Workhorse and Mahindra International,” Navistar spokesman Roy Wiley told Transport Topics.
Wiley said that “Navistar will be more widely used as an ‘umbrella’ brand for our evolving organization . . . [although] International will remain a very prominent industry brand” for its trucks.
“This change does not impact either dealers or customers directly,” he said. “Our truck customers will continue to see and know the International brand. And our dealers will continue as International dealers.”
Daniel Ustian remains chairman and chief executive officer of both the holding company Navistar International Corp. and the new Navistar Inc.
Dee Kapur and Jack Allen will remain presidents of the corporation’s truck and engine groups, respectively.
