Navistar Starts Shipping ProStars with MaxxForce Engines
Navistar International Corp. said it has begun shipping International ProStar truck models powered by its MaxxForce 13-liter engine ahead of schedule.
The first units began shipping Friday from manufacturing plants in Escobedo, Mexico, and Springfield, Ohio, the Lisle, Ill., truck and engine maker said in a statement.
Navistar received certification earlier this month from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its MaxxForce 13-liter heavy-duty engine using selective catalytic reduction technology from Cummins Inc.
“Delivering our 13-liter engine ahead of schedule is another important milestone for Navistar and completes our transition to SCR-based heavy-duty engine offerings,” Navistar’s CEO Troy Clarke said in a statement.
Navistar — which previously said the engine meets 2010 emissions standards of 0.2 gram per brake horsepower-hour — introduced its first SCR-based commercial trucks for the U.S. and Canadian markets in December with the launch of the International ProStar with the Cummins ISX 15-liter engine.
The company said the remaining lineup of International heavy-duty truck models will transition to SCR-based clean engine technology in a phased launch in the coming months.
