Navistar International Corp. has resumed contract talks with the United Auto Workers aimed at ending a five-week strike, Bloomberg reported.

A meeting held Monday was the first since Oct. 23, when 3,700 union members in six states walked off the job, Bloomberg reported.

The strike comes as sales of its heavy and medium-sized International trucks fell 39% in the first 10 months of the year, Bloomberg said, citing Automotive News.

Navistar shifted production to non-union factories so the strike has had no impact on its output, a company spokesman told Bloomberg.

Workers in Indianapolis; Springfield, Ohio; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Melrose Park, Ill.; Atlanta; Dallas; and York, Pa., have been affected by the strike, the UAW said last month.

The union’s previous five-year contract with Navistar expired Oct. 1.

Navistar is the parent of International Truck and Engine Corp.
