NBC Settles With Classic Carriers

A Maine trucking company’s long-running lawsuit against “Dateline NBC” over a less-than-flattering portrayal of the company and the trucking industry came to an end last week with an out-of-court settlement.

Terms of the settlement were not divulged.

“I can’t discuss it,” said Ray Veilleux, president of Classic Carriers in Waterville, Maine. “Believe me, I would if I could.”

Veilleux sued Dateline after it aired a segment in 1995 that called highways “the trucker’s killing field” and focused on driver fatigue and drug abuse, using a Classic Carriers driver as an example. Veilleux said Dateline assured him the program would not portray trucking negatively.
