N.C. Supports Virginia’s Plan to Toll I-95

North Carolina’s secretary of transportation is supporting a plan by Virginia to put tolls on Interstate 95 near the border of the two states, the Associated Press reported.

Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) said in May he backs putting a toll at the Virginia-North Carolina border, saying it would it would be a way of raising $30 million to $60 million a year for repairs on the major north-south interchange.

In a letter to the Federal Highway Administration, North Carolina Transportation Secretary Eugene Conti Jr. said the tolls would help to coordinate plans for I-95 in his state, which also could impose tolls on I-95 by 2012, AP reported.
