New Illinois Laws Benefit Drivers

Trucker drivers in Illinois are getting a helping hand from two recently-enacted laws.

One of the laws allows truckers reclassifying or upgrading vehicles in the middle of the year to pay only the additional registration fees owed. Previously they had to pay for an entirely new registration.

The second law allows trucking companies to buy round-trip overweight permits instead of having to get permits for each leg of the trip.

"This law just makes things easier for us so we don’t have to buy two permits," said Chuck Kadlec of the Illinois Transportation Assn.
