A warehouse security guard in New Jersey who was overpowered by gun-toting thieves July 4 was able to free himself and contact the police to help foil a robbery attempt, according to police reports.
The three alleged thieves went to the warehouse in North Brunswick around 7 p.m. and displayed a handgun to detain the security guard. The crooks were in the midst of gathering merchandise when the guard escaped and notified police.
Once police arrived at the warehouse, one of the thieves jumped into a box-style truck and attempted to flee, but he soon crashed and was captured. Meanwhile, police cordoned off the warehouse and captured the other two suspects who were hiding nearby. The gun and other evidence were confiscated.
Suspects Axell Mendoza, 30, of North Bergen; Alex Pelerigo, 50, of Elizabeth; and Jun Jang, 31, of Iselin were taken to the Middlesex County Department of Corrections. They were charged with robbery, burglary theft, possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and eluding.
