New York Manufacturing Index Declines

Manufacturing growth in New York state declined in September, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York said Monday.

The regional Fed’s “Empire State Index,” generally the first economic indicator in a given month, fell to 14.7 from a 25.1 in August. Readings above zero indicate expansion.

The reading matched economists’ forecasts, Bloomberg reported.

The survey’s new orders index fell to 13.6 from 22.2, the Fed said.

Manufacturing is one of trucking’s largest and most important customers.
