New York Truckers Face Size Crackdown by City Officials

New York City officials warn the trucking industry that they intend to increase enforcement of the city’s vehicle size restrictions.

New York’s laws are much more restrictive than the size rules in most parts of the country, but enforcement has been spotty and focused mainly on areas of Manhattan, said William G. Joyce Jr., president of the New York State Motor Truck Association.

At a recent meeting with city officials, Joyce was told by police that they would begin enforcing the laws more strictly and in all of the boroughs.

Such a move gives shippers the jitters, and would leave many truckers refusing to serve the Big Apple.
