North American Show Draws Record 30,000

BOSTON — The teeming mass of an estimated 30,000 people was a pleasant sight for organizers of the North American Truck Show, making it the best turnout in the program’s 27-year history.

Gregory Coughlin, the show’s director, said attendance was nearly 4% above the 28,995 people who came to last year’s exhibition, which attracted visitors from the United States and at least five other countries.

The program, which ran from May 6 to 8, featured 603 domestic and foreign exhibitors who presented their products in 330,000 square feet of space at the Bayside Expo Center.

During the first two days, participants had an opportunity to attend technical seminars covering a variety of subjects, including freight management software, on-board computers, fleet graphics, trailers and vocational trucks.

The North American Truck Show differs from others, such as Mid-America Trucking Show, in that it attracts a more urban crowd, Coughlin said.

“We don’t get the great numbers of over-the-road truckers they get,” he said. “We get the ones who use day cabs and make short regional runs."
