A major winter storm dumped uwpards of two feet of snow on some parts of New England and the northern mid-Atlantic Thursday and Friday, disrupting travel and closing roads and airports, the Associated Press reported.

New York state officials closed a 30-mile section of Interstate 84 Thursday because of travel conditions. Airlines canceled hundreds of flights in the region, AP said.

Pennsylvania closed I-380 and I-84 Thursday, and imposed a 45 mph speed limit on other interstates in the northeastern part of the state.

The worst of the snow had stopped by Friday morning, but forecasters predicted that strong winds and blizzard conditions would continue throughout the day, AP said. The fastest wind reported was 91 mph in Portsmouth, N.H.

The National Weather Service said that the low pressure area that causes the wind will drift northward Friday before weakening on Saturday.
