NorthStar Batteries Standard on DTNA’s ParkSmart Trucks
NorthStar Battery Co. has entered into a seven-year agreement to supply batteries to Daimler Trucks North America as part of DTNA's improvements to the next-generation Cascadia truck, including making NorthStar's Ultra High Performance Pure Lead AGM batteries “a standard” on all ParkSmart-optioned trucks.
DTNA is a unit of Stuttgart, Germany-based Daimler AG, the world’s largest truck manufacturer.
The agreement also makes its Ultra High Performance Pure Lead AGM batteries “a standard option” on most other Freightliner and Western Star trucks, Freightliner Chassis and Thomas Bus factory orders, creating a strategic partnership valued at up to $500 million, the Stockholm-based energy storage manufacturer said.
“With increased government no-idle regulation worldwide, the heavy duty truck industry is faced with enormous power demand challenges that only a few battery manufacturers can meet,” Hans Lidén, CEO, NorthStar Group, said in a statement.
Customers trading in trucks every four years may never have to replace a battery during the ownership cycle of the truck, NorthStar said.
