NPTC Wants Smaller Firms to Join
Members of the organization will gather to vote on restructuring their roster to attract companies that operate light- and medium-duty fleets or outsource fleet operations. Balloting is scheduled at the annual meeting starting May 2 in Long Beach, Calif.
If approved by a two-thirds vote, the council’s fleet and associate membership divisions will be replaced by six branches more representative of the industry. Three categories will be designated for fleets — heavy-duty, medium- and light-duty, and third-party users such those outsourced under a lease or dedicated contract arrangement. The rest will cover suppliers.
“There is now the perception that NPTC is a big-company organization. The structure clearly demonstrates there is room in the tent for light- and medium-duty operators,” said John McQuaid, president of the group. “We will have specific representation from them on the board, where it was indirect in the past.”
