The National Transportation Safety Board announced details of its planned public hearing on truck and bus safety.

NTSB Chairman Jim Hall said the April 15-16 hearing in Washington D.C. will review the conditions and causes of truck-and bus-related crashes and evaluate the effectiveness of federal, state and industry oversight of heavy-vehicle safety (3-8, p.30).

"We have seen an increasing number of truck and bus related deaths in recent years and we need to make sure that every effort is made to ensure the safety of our citizens on our highways," Hall said. "The Safety Board is committed to working with the industry, the Department of Transportation and safety advocacy groups to develop realistic and effective solutions to the current truck and bus safety issues."
