NYC to Begin Size, Weight Crackdown

New York City will begin a crackdown on truck size and weight regulations on Tuesday, according to the New York State Motor Truck Association.

City officials told the association at a Dec. 3 meeting that the stepped-up enforcement would concentrate on Manhattan.

New York City regulations limit trailers to a length of 45 feet and a width of 96 inches. The overall maximum truck length in the city is 55 feet.

The state also restricts trucks on non-designated highways to a maximum overall length of 65 feet.

The association says the regulations mean a truck hauling a 48-foot trailer in the city will likely receive four traffic citations.

The crackdown may last through the week.
