The Port of Oakland could see a backlog of up to a week following the death of a dockworker killed on the job, news reports said Wednesday.

Longshoremen at the port walked off the job Tuesday following the shipboard death, Inside Bay Area Web site reported.

The closure could mean big backups, the site reported, citing logistics firm officials.

A port spokeswoman said officials had not determined the coast of a protracted shutdown and were still trying to find how a 39-year-old worker was killed aboard the Germany-registered Hapag-Lloyd container ship on Monday, Inside Bay Area said.
