President Obama touted greater use of natural gas during a visit to a UPS Inc. facility in Las Vegas on Thursday, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The visit followed Obama’s call for expanded natural gas use in transportation during his State of the Union speech on Tuesday.

Declaring the United States the “Saudi Arabia of natural gas,” the president said the government should encourage trucking companies and other large users to reduce reliance on foreign oil to power their fleets, the Times reported.

He rolled out a plan that offers tax incentives for companies that buy natural-gas-powered trucks, the paper said, and visited UPS’ hub because it was among the first companies to use more natural gas vehicles.

UPS Inc., which will release its fourth-quarter and year-end earnings Tuesday, is ranked No. 1 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
