Oil rose in early trading Monday to near $81 a barrel as the U.s. dollar fell versus the euro, Bloomberg reported.

Light, sweet crude futures rose 70 cents to $80.70 a barrel in early trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange, after sliding slightly last week.

Oil prices have held over $80 almost every day in March after being the $70s through most of February, and diesel and gasoline prices have risen accordingly.

The two fuels have increased in each of the past five weeks to their highest levels since late 2008 with diesel approaching $3 a gallon and gas not far behind.

The Department of Energy will release its weekly survey of diesel and gasoline filling stations Monday afternoon in Washington.
