Oil Delivery Drivers May Get Hours Exemption

Home heating oil delivery carriers would be able to apply for seasonal exemptions from federal hours-of-service regulations beginning Nov. 1 under a pilot program proposed last week.

The plan was one of several measures announced by the Clinton administration in response to skyrocketing home heating oil prices.

The rule also indicates that the agency may place increased emphasis on nighttime rest in its proposed revision of hours regulations for all interstate commercial truck drivers.
