Oklahoma Adopts $6 Billion Highway and Bridge Construction Plan

The Oklahoma Transportation Commission adopted a $6 billion, eight-year, highway-and-bridge construction plan, the Associated Press reported.

It includes about 2,000 projects expected to be completed by 2021, including replacing or reconstructing 924 bridges and improving 552 miles of high-volume highways and interstates, according to AP.

The plan is being funded through a combination of federal and state transportation money.

Oklahoma Department of Transportation officials said the plan and a separate initiative to preserve existing roads and bridges will ensure that all remaining structurally deficient bridges will be repaired or replaced by the end of the decade.

Oklahoma’s bridges are ranked second worst in the nation by Transportation for America, a transportation policy group based in Washington, D.C.
