How many baseballs could fit into a 28-foot dry van trailer? It’s a question many people in trucking probably haven’t considered and one that those outside of the industry certain never pondered.

But less-than-truckload carrier Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. will offer tickets to one game in each of the next three World Series if you’re the closest to the actual number.

It was part of a promotional effort tied to the launch of a transparent trailer at the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Miami last week. And, yes, the trailer will have the baseballs inside to view, thanks to 14 2-inch thick, 300-pound Plexiglass panels.

After the stop in Miami, the LTL truck will be at Fenway Park in Boston during July 17-20. Then, it will spend two days in Chicago at Wrigley Field and two at Guaranteed Rate Field, home of the White Sox, during July 24-27. The tour will round out with stops at ballparks in Arlington, Texas; Los Anaheim, Calif; and Kansas City, Mo., logging about 9,000 miles.

Old Dominion told Transport Topics that the trailer weighs 15,760 pounds empty and 47,000 pounds after the baseballs were added.

The tractor is a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia with a Detroit DD15 diesel engine and LED lights.

The Thomasville, N.C., company ranks No. 11 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest North American for-hire carriers. It became a promotional partner of MLB earlier this year.
