Omnitracs has introduced an application designed to help fleets prevent crashes by identifying their drivers who are most likely to be involved in a serious accident.
The trucking technology supplier said its Accident Severity Model uses data collected from hours-of-service applications to predict which drivers are likely to have an accident, based on both loss of control and distraction.
Omnitracs said the application will allow any fleet using electronic logs, regardless of size, to improve safety through predictive modeling, an approach that the company said has been limited primarily to large fleets in the past.
“What many in our industry don’t realize is that it’s possible to be 100% compliant with HOS regulations and be sound asleep at the wheel, simultaneously,” Dean Croke, vice president of analytics at Omnitracs, said in the Nov. 2 announcement. “This is why we’ve developed the Accident Severity Model — to allow fleets to predict serious accidents using HOS data and proactively intervene with those drivers at highest risk for being involved.”
