LOUISVILLE, Ky. — ONE20 said it will launch its own mobile app-based electronic logging device designed to help independent drivers comply with the upcoming federal mandate of the technology.

The device, named F-ELD, connects with the truck through a cable and pairs wirelessly with a driver’s Android or Apple smartphone or tablet.

The product, which will begin shipping in July, will be available without a subscription fee, ONE20 said.

Under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s ELD mandate, most drivers currently required to keep paper logbooks will need to transition to a compliant ELD by Dec. 18.

“Drivers want something simple, affordable and compliant that won’t force them to give up their privacy — that is exactly why we developed F-ELD,” said Christian Schenk, founder and CEO of ONE20.

ONE20 also is partnering with PeopleNet, a supplier of onboard fleet-management technology. The two firms said they are developing an interface between F-ELD and PeopleNet’s systems.

“Our customers want flexibility and options, and PeopleNet is committed to just that,” said Eric Witty, vice president of product management for PeopleNet. “F-ELD gives clients who authorize data sharing a low/no-cost option for the portions of their fleet not requiring functionality above the driver logs offered by ONE20.”
