OOIDA, ATA Ask DOT to Reject Pa. I-80 Tolling

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Transportation asking the agency to deny the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s request to toll Interstate 80.

The letter, jointly signed with American Trucking Associations, the American Highway Users Alliance and the National Association of Truck Stop Operators, outlined  stipulations in the Interstate Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Pilot Program that need to be met by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in order to be able to add tolls to its highways.

The organizations said they do not believe the turnpike authority and PennDOT have met those criteria.

OOIDA and the other groups also said they believed toll-ing initiatives often amount to double taxation of highway users, are financially detrimental to truckers, and have proven to cause unsafe conditions on alternate routes as highway users avoid tolls.
