E-commerce specialist OpenStore will soon open its first fulfillment center in Kansas City, Mo., a $5 million investment expected to create 46 jobs and expand the city’s growing logistics sector.
OpenStore, which manages more than 100,000 stock-keeping units and serves more than 2 million customers, plans to launch operations at the 113,000-square-foot facility in the region’s Executive Park Logistics Center in March 2025.
The facility will be part of Kansas City’s broader industrial expansion, as about 70 million square feet of development has taken place over the past decade. Josie Calkins, director of KC SmartPort, said the city’s central location and logistics capabilities help attract companies like OpenStore.
“Kansas City continues to be a key player in industrial growth and innovation,” Calkins said.
The project will benefit from the Missouri Works program, a state incentive tool that provides tax credits or withholdings to companies that create jobs and invest in local communities.

“This expansion not only enhances our operational capabilities but also positions us to better serve our customers while implementing technology-driven fulfillment solutions,” said David Reifschneider, OpenStore’s head of supply chain. He called the Kansas City facility a “major milestone” in the company’s growth.
The OpenStore technology-focused approach to e-commerce is built around its AI-powered customer support tool, OpenDesk. The Kansas City facility signals the company’s commitment to scaling operations and optimizing logistics as it builds its portfolio of Shopify-based businesses, according to a news release.
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson described the state as a prime environment for businesses to thrive. “It’s always exciting to see cutting-edge companies choosing the Show-Me State due to our strategic location, superior infrastructure, and talented workforce,” Parson said.
Kansas City leaders also highlighted the region’s strengths in distribution and logistics. Mayor Quinton Lucas pointed to the area’s track record in supporting emerging companies.
“With OpenStore’s innovative e-commerce technology and our world-class distribution capabilities, talented workforce, and ideal location, I look forward to an exciting chapter in growing our digital economy in Kansas City,” Lucas said.
Michelle Hataway, director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development, called OpenStore’s move a “win” for both the company and the state’s workforce.
