Operation Safe Driver Week Is Underway
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has scheduled its annual Operation Safe Driver Week, sponsored with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, for Oct. 16-22, CVSA announced Aug. 2.
During Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement agencies throughout North America heighten their traffic safety enforcement and education aimed at combating unsafe driving behavior by commercial vehicle operators or by those driving passenger vehicles near them.
According to FMCSA’s "Large Truck Crash Causation Study" driver behavior is the main reason for more than 88% of large truck crashes and 93% of passenger-vehicle crashes.
Among the unsafe driver behaviors that law enforcement will monitor during Operation Safe Driver Week are: speeding, failure to use a seat belt, distracted driving, failure to obey traffic control devices, following too closely and improper lane changes.
