Orbcomm to Provide Trailer Tracking for Ryder

Equipment-leasing provider Ryder System Inc. has selected Orbcomm Inc. to provide a trailer-tracking system for its fleet of more than 30,000 dry van, refrigerated and flatbed trailers, the technology vendor recently announced.

Ryder will use the tracking and monitoring technology in its lease and rental trailer fleets in response to customer demand, Orbcomm said.

Orbcomm said its system will make it easier for Ryder customers to monitor their assets in real time to improve visibility and utilization. The technology also can provide refrigerated trailer monitoring and control.

Orbcomm has deployed more than 2,000 of its systems on Ryder’s trailers, and Ryder will extend the telematics devices to its commercial lease and rental customers as a value-added benefit on their equipment, Orbcomm said in the Sept. 12 announcement.

“We are excited to solidify our longtime relationship with Ryder, a leader in commercial transportation and an innovator in the use of fleet management technology, through this new vendor agreement,” Orbcomm CEO Marc Eisenberg said.
