OSHA Chief Jeffress Says It's Time to Build Bridges With ATA

SAN FRANCISCO — Charles Jeffress went where no Occupational Safety and Health administrator had gone before last week, speaking at the American Trucking Associations’ Winter Leadership Meeting and encouraging the organization to join him as he sought new frontiers of cooperation.

Jeffress said he doesn’t understand why ATA is such a staunch critic of the agency, since many of the association’s members voluntarily comply with OSHA regulations.

“ATA has been on the opposite side of the river from us on worker safety and ergonomics,” Jeffress told the board of directors at its winter meeting. “Trucking companies are doing this but your association opposes it. I don’t understand it.
