Pa. Turnpike Tolls Increase 10% for Cash Users

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission approved a 10% toll increase for drivers paying with cash and a 2% increase for those using the E-ZPass system.

The toll hike is intended to increase enrollment in the E-ZPass system, said the commission, as well as pay for its $450 million obligation to the state.

E-ZPass users will now see a savings of 25% compared to those paying cash.

The increase will become effective Jan. 6, 2013.

The commission also announced that it has selected HNTB Corp. to implement the planned all electronic tolling system, expected to be in place in five years.
